Field Trip to Highland Springs

March 1, 2006 on 12:56 pm | In General | No Comments

I went to the Highland Springs Technical Center today. The two classes I’m visiting is Computer Systems Technology and High Tech Academy. My first trip was to CST, and the class was something. The lady forgot that my school was coming to visit, so I had to sit and wait a while. Then a man took me to the adjoining room with a few student, and told me about the class. There was a lot of “Well, when I saw you, you look right for the High Tech Academy.” Then I get to meet the students

When I came back to fifth period, Ms. Gilliam told me that my second and fourth period teachers marked me unexcused absence.

Washing Mishaps

February 26, 2006 on 11:41 pm | In General | No Comments

I told my dad that the DVD burner died. I think he might buy me a new one later in the future.

Here’s a mistake I’m never doing again: I put a coat in the washing machine after separating the two layers. Turns out, that has got to be one of the biggest mistakes ever. The threads on the design came off or is in the process of becoming loose. And the black inky parts of the jacket won’t come off at all. So now I have to resort to bleach, but that’s for another day.

Double Standards

February 25, 2006 on 5:39 pm | In General | No Comments

My mom yelled at me this morning about wanting to buy a book for English. She kept going on about how I’m wasting money by not going to the library and borrowing a book. Then she bitched some more about me wasting more money every week supposedly. She told me that money doesn’t grow on trees, and that we have to save money. And that she has no problem buying $10 books, but it adds up to several hundred dollars a year (when you can’t add).

BUT she has no problem wasting money on Yugioh cards for my brothers. She said those cards are inexpensive. She has a problem with buying something for school, but she has no problem wasting $2 on five pieces of paper. I can’t wait to tell my dad how wrong he’s been.

Laser Died

My CD/DVD burner died. Well, more accurately, the laser died. So that means I can’t burn anything until the burner gets replaced.

GATTACA

February 24, 2006 on 10:36 pm | In General | No Comments

Biology was more interesting than usual. We did worksheets on genetics, and watched a clip from the movie, GATTACA. The clip we saw was about a guy who wanted another guy’s identity so he can get into the city of GATTACA. In the movie’s timeframe, people can select what traits to give to their babies. My favorite quote of the clip was, “This piss has more vodka than piss!”

Mr. Jewell graded our tests from last class. Dustin copied off from me and got a 40. I got a point taken off because of rounding, and I missed the 12 answers from the series-parallel-series circuit problem, so I got an 87. Then Mr. Jewell showed us how to measure volts and amps using the voltmeter and ampmeter. I didn’t really absorb much of what he said since I didn’t have a very good view. Then Mr. Jewell went on about AC and DC (alternative currents and direct currents), and someone made a joke about Dustin’s ACDC shirt.

I played several rounds of Sudoku during fifth period, and read about twenty pages of The Old man and the Sea.

English was talking about the book, doing pronoun packets, and I got to tell Ms. Lindbloom the mistake in one of her newspaper articles.

Movies from 1998

February 23, 2006 on 11:04 pm | In General | No Comments

Well, first period was devoted to doing worksheets. The whole ninety-minute period was devoted to doing problems from a packet.

A lady from the Math and Science Center came to visit us during math. Her name was Mrs. Crocker. Katrina thought it said “Mrs. Cracker.” It would be funny if her first name was “Betty.” :-P Well, we did an assignment about graphs and movies from 1998. We had to record the dates when movies were in the top 10, graph it, and do equations with it. Everyone from our table had to choose a movie. I did Armageddon. Amidst the graphings and the confusion, someone delivered me a field trip form telling me the trip to the Highland Springs Technical Center has been rescheduled to the morning of March 1st. A convenient day for the new date. :) At the end of class, we analyzed Titanic. It was in the top 10 spots for the longest time ever. Titanic had a spike in viewers during the week for Valentine’s day and spring break.

I didn’t really do much fifth period. I had nowhere to go during directed study, so it sucks for me.

And Japanese is the day for another successful conversation with three people writing down the answers. Nobody ever told us we couldn’t.
